201920 Champions League Preview Ios Mpalazzotto

In a throwback to the days of the British Empire, the Premier League dominated the football map in May and June, sending four clubs to the Champions and Europa League finals. Tonight, the rest of the world finally has a chance to answer the challenge.

Liverpool begins defence of their sixth European Cup. Tottenham seek to follow the Reds example by reaching the finals in successive tournaments and winning on the second go-round. Chelsea step up a level without Maurizio Sarri and Eden Hazard. Pep Guardiola wants to prove he can win it all without Lionel Messi.

The Maestro is also desperate to show the world there’s another major trophy in him. Zinedine Zidane has never been eliminated from the competition. He’ll defend that record with a squad nearly as green as Frank Lampard’s, despite the Frenchman's freedom to spend as much as he desired. Paris Saint-Germain kept Neymar. Now they must keep him from injury to finally chase a continental title at season’s end. The Bundesliga provides three contenders in Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. Juventus continue their quest, adding even more talent to support Cristiano Ronaldo. Antonio Conte seeks to betray the Old Lady with Inter. And then there’s Atletico Madrid who signed Joao Felix, the teenager who shows every sign of inheriting Messi’s mantle as the best player in the world.

The 2019/20 Champions League field is wide open. With domestic leagues underway, let’s take a look at the eight groups to see how the draw affects everyone’s prospects.
