Manchester United are all over the place defensively. No longer is Old Trafford the fortress it was last season. A lot has changed since David De Gea won his first Golden Glove. The Red Devils' Superman was somewhat weakened by some World Cup kryptonite. A tiny decline in his game has triggered a disaster in United’s defence. Jose Mourinho is disgruntled after not receiving his centre-back signing in the summer. Nothing is working for the defensive-minded manager. In the early goings of 2018/19, United have already shot themselves in the foot far too many times due to calamities aplenty at the back.
Even the men upstairs in the United hierarchy have understood the need for a defensive signing. It’s rumoured a hefty £100million will be made available for Mourinho in January to sign a world-class centre-back who can steady the ship. The Old Trafford club needs to sign a leader who is not only physically strong enough for the Premier League, but can also motivate his fellow defenders to pick up their games.
