Match Report: Bristol City 0-1 Middlesbrough (Boro Fan's Perspective)

Monday 5th December 2011
A superb injury time free-kick from sub Malaury Martin earned Boro an excellent win at Ashton Gate against a recently rejuvenated Bristol City.

Martin's 30-yard stunner left ex England international David James with no chance in his 750th league appearance and lifted the Teesiders up to third in the Championship. There was a minutes applause prior to the game in memory of premiership legend Gary Speed who sadly passed away last weekend.

Boro, who were playing in only their second televised game of the season, had their England U21's international keeper Jason Steele to thank, after he made an excellent point blank save from Nicky Maynard in the first half and then clawed away Brett Pitman's effort in the second, as City looked to extend their six-game unbeaten run under new boss Derek McInnes .

The home side felt they should have had a penalty in the second half, when Julio Arca handled in the area but the referee waved away their protests.

David James at the other end had little to do in the game other than a couple of tame efforts from Boro's top scorer Marvin Emnes. But he could do nothing about Martin's late rocket which flew in to the top corner and sent Mogga's men to within five points of second placed West Ham.
