6 footballers who played with the best smiles

Monday 10th October 2016
Putting up a smile on the pitch of play is something very uncommon with footballers today. Many take to the pitch with only one thing on their mind - which is victory, while others just wanna have fun irrespective of the outcome of the game.

As it was World Smile Day on October 7th , we have been inspired to take a look at some of the best footballers with the best smiles.

1 - Joe Hart

Joe Hart probably has the best smiles among all English players. Even when his Manchester City future seemed uncertain with new coach Pep Guardiola, dropping him to the bench, Hart never stopped smiling. He was at one time slammed by Paul Scholes for  appearing to be sharing a big beam despite City losing to Barcelona in the Champions League in 2015.

"Well done to Joe Hart for a record number of saves in a Champions League game this season, and without him it would undoubtedly been worse for City," the Manchester United legend said. "But what I could not get my head around was his evident delight at it all. Towards the end of the game he was smiling after every save and fist-bumping his defenders. City were losing 1-0. They were going out of the Champions League. What were they celebrating? Losing 5-0?"

Now playing his football at Torino, the former Birmingham goalkeeper never seizes to thrill the Italian fans with his big grin on his face.

2 - Santi Carzola

Arsenal's little Spanish orchestrator has a smile to light up the Emirates Stadium just as his magical feet often do. He may be lacking in size but he more than makes up for it with his gleaming grin. When asked in 2013 why he always has that big grin on his face, the 31-year-old revealed: “because I am always happy.”

Cazorla hasn't been invited by Julen Lopetegui since he took charge of Spain, but we doubt even that could take the joy out of his day. He's just a happy guy.

3 - Ronaldinho

For Ronaldinho, his endless smiles on the pitch are for an obvious reason, he claims “I am very happy to do what I love". The former two-time Ballon d'Or winner has and always will play the game as if he had just been sipping some Caipirinhas on the Copacabana the night before.

A showboater he may be, but what a joyful one at that. It would be difficult to find anyone who couldn't afford to smile when watching Ronaldinho play football and he certainly returned the compliment.

4 - Ahmed Musa

Maybe this one might not please many Nigerians but Ahmed Musa seems not to bothered about having a big grin most of the time. Musa is one player who never gets upset even if he misses to score into an empty net. He never lacks a big smile on his face irrespective of the scoreline.

The Leicester City man had no qualms relinquishing his Super Eagles captaincy to John Mikel Obi which is something rare especially with modern day footballers and has since moved on with the same big grin on his face.

5 - Ronaldo

Ronaldo was one of the most devastating strikers the game has ever seen, scoring 352 goals in club football. Like his Brazilian colleague up above, he was a man who just loved to have the ball at his feet. A party lifestyle eventually caught up with him but the former Brazilian No.9 will always be remembered for bringing the party to the pitch.

6 -Marco Reus

Everyone loves Reus and how could you not. A happy go lucky chap who just loves to have fun. The Borussia Dortmund star has been plagued with niggling injuries which ruled him out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Euros two years after.

However, none of these could even make the forward change his happy expressions on the pitch.

If the sport has 11-men on each side, a ball and lasts for 90 minutes then I'll write about it. Simply put, I'm an unrepentant soccer freak that other freaks will, however, call a geek. I do find time for music when not watching the beautiful game, though and have been known to produce the odd track.
